The purpose of this position is to operate patient transport vehicles, including emergency vehicles, patient transport vans/buses and other types transport vehicles. Capable of carrying up to 8 or more passengers, to and from VA Medical Center facilities, private healthcare facilities, and other private sector areas like patient homes, railway, bus stations and airports. Selectee drives predetermined and/or scheduled routes or special runs.

Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to: Load an unload patients safely. Maintain records and document actions Use a two-way radio(or other device) to maintain communications with dispatcher/supervisor. Drive other types of motor vehicles on a non-recurring or incidental basis, such as a 1-ton wheelchair van, stretcher van, passenger van, and large buses that range from 8,900 GVW to 26,000 GVW. Participate in safety activities and attend scheduled safety training. Make trips to medical facilities, home, railway, bus stations and airports. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Motor Vehicle Operator/PD99793S *** A current, valid driver license, and current, valid Commercial (CDL) driver license with a passenger endorsement is required*** ***Must successfully complete Basic Life Support Training***

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/11/2024. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Turning or moving hands, arms, feet and legs to operate controls. Heavy lifting or moving of heavy objects. Drivers are mostly outside and operate vehicles in all types of weather. Drivers are exposed to dirt, fumes and a possibility of cuts and bruises. Ability to drive in rural areas and very congested Metro areas. Must safely handle patients on stretchers and wheelchairs when loading and unloading from vans and buses.
