This position is located in the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Midwest Area, Location Support Staff in Madison, Wisconsin. The position is part of the Pathways Internship Program. This is a time-limited, excepted service position expected to last more than 1-year. The position's end date is based on when the intern obtains his/her degree (diploma, certificate, etc.), but cannot exceed 8 years in total.

Duties

Reviews, examines, and processes a variety of financial documents. Corrects invalid/incorrect entries and prepares balances to check the status of accounts. Reviews and supplies budgetary data for fund holders and prepares annual budget documents, based on historical data and recurring costs for the supervisor. Verifies accounting data and enters data into accounting system. Reviews files for accuracy and compatibility with various accounting systems used and receives, extracts, records, and balances data for assigned accounts in automated systems. Uses an automated tracking system to track salary costs and hours worked. Prepares special and recurring salary reports which provide status or analytical information to various organizations and levels of management services. Works with supervisor to prepare and develop annual budget documents.

Requirements

  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
  • Must be in good academic standing and hold a GPA of at least 2.0.
  • Complete at least 640 hrs of work experience prior to completion of degree.
  • Enrolled at least half-time at a qualifying educational institution.
  • A signed participant agreement is required for employment under Pathways.
  • Satisfactory Background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
  • Successful completion of two-year trial period.
  • Direct Deposit – Per Public Law 104-134 all Federal employees are required to have federal payments made by direct deposit to their financial institution.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement. The duties of the position must be related to either the student's academic or career goals (i.e., accounting, finance, business, or public administration). Pathways Eligiblility All applicants must be currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a student on at least a half-time basis at a qualifying educational institution in a certificate, degree, or diploma program. Applicants must be in good academic standing (GPA of 2.0 or equivalent) and must maintain such GPA throughout the duration of the program, if selected. GS-05: Education: Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree.

Education
