This position is located at HUDIG, Office of Special Inquiry. As a Supervisory Attorney-Advisor, you will serve as a key advisor to the Deputy AIGI and the Assistant Inspector General for Office of Special Inquiry (AIG-OSI) while directing a division charged with conducting high-level special investigations, investigating allegations of misconduct by employees of the department including those within the Office of Inspector General, and conducting all whistleblower investigations.
Duties
As a Supervisory Attorney-Advisor, you will:
- Be tasked with the responsibility and oversight of all special investigations as well as managerial oversight over all aspects of OSI investigatory operations.
- Analyze and provide legal comment on proposed legislation and regulations along with overseeing or conducting effective and comprehensive research into legal and operational issues. Conduct and coordinate follow-up efforts with agency or other government personnel to achieve resolution of OIG recommendations.
- Assimilate, coordinate, and analyze technical and analytical data from various sources, and prepare effective analysis or other reports to be used as a basis for action by the Office of Inspector General or other agency and governmental personnel (e.g., HUD, Department of Justice, U.S. Attorneys, etc.).
- Provide technical direction to staff in the coordination and conduct of HUD-OIG's extremely sensitive, complex, and controversial investigations
- Perform supervisory duties to permanent and detailed employees
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Basic Requirements: Applicants MUST:(1) be a graduate of an accredited law school with an LL.B. or J.D.; from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) ABA Approved Law Schools; (2) be a current member of a bar with a valid license to practice law in a state, territory of the United States, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico; and(3) meet all specialized experience requirements as described in the vacancy announcement.
Specialized Experience: For the GS-15, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-14grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Conducting investigations and making presentations about the subject matter to various audiences; AND
Experience in application of sound legal judgments in matters concerning criminal, civil and/or administrative law; AND
Drafting reports of investigation on complex, sensitive matters; AND
Experience in laws, policies and standards applicable to the Inspector General community, including the Inspector General Act, CIGIE Quality Standards, and the Attorney General Guidelines; AND
Experience in handling whistleblower retaliation complaints.
Education
EDUCATION DOCUMENTATION: Attorney positions do have an education requirement. Applicants must be a graduate of an accredited law school with an LL.B. or J.D. For positions with an education requirement, you MUST submit a copy of your transcripts or equivalent. An official transcript will be required if you are selected. In addition you must provide proof of bar or your bar number in the vacancy questions.
