Duties

Assistant United States Attorney's in the Criminal Division prosecute federal cases in the District of Maryland and advise federal law enforcement agents on investigations, present cases to the grand jury, and try cases before the United States District Court. AUSAs in the National Security Division are responsible for combatting national security and cyber security threats facing our region and our nation. Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. Requirements

  • You must be a United States Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • J.D. degree and active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) required.
  • Must reside in the district to which appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district specific information.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 3 years post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience. United States citizenship is required. Preferred Qualifications: Preferred applicants will possess substantial experience in handling national security and/or cyber-related investigations or litigation. The preferred applicant will have substantial experience handling all phases of prosecuting these types of cases including pre-trial litigation, trials, sentencing, post-sentencing proceedings and appeals. Preferred applicants will also demonstrate superior oral and written communications skills, possess the ability to work as part of a team, with an emphasis on working well with client agencies. Applicants should have strong character and interpersonal skills, the ability to adapt and demonstrate the capacity to function with minimal guidance in a highly demanding environment. You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.
