This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for certain personnel in the DoD workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission.

Duties

Perform a variety of duties related to the inspection, maintenance, and repair of targets, target devices, and the immediate areas in which these items are located. Inspect and test various target systems to include hardwired infantry ranges, RETS (Remote Target Systems), as well as other equipment on gunnery ranges. Make electrical/electronic diagnosis and repairs on target systems powered by up to and including 480 V, 3 phase. Operate the Range Control Station console. Performs site work around target devices.

Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Target Systems Repairer (MVO) ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common maintenance on remote electronic target systems; operating automated range computer systems; operating vehicles and equipment, usually less than 1-ton, to and from the worksite. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Frequently lifts and carries tools, equipment and parts weighing up to 70 pounds. Occasionally lifts up to 100 pounds or over with assistance. The work requires bending, stooping, and working in cramped positions. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works with electrical power supplies from 12 volt dc, 120 volt to 480 volt, 3 phase high voltage current. Exposed to electrical shock which may cause death or serious injury. Works inside and outside during all types of weather conditions. Stands on concrete floors and works on ranges in rough terrain. Exposed to dangers of live fire ranges, pyrotechnics, laser frequencies and explosives. May be exposed to sulfuric acid when handling batteries used in operation remotely controlled target devices. Is exposed to the possibility of abrasions, explosive charges equivalent to l/4 pound charge of TNT. Hearing protective devices are issued or available for use.
