About the position: This position will be assigned to the Arts and Crafts Center, Engraving and Framing Department.
Assists framer in fulfilling customer orders following work order specifications, and strict instructions on what is necessary to complete each order.
Duties
Assists framer in fulfilling customer orders following work order specifications, and strict instructions on what is necessary to complete each order.
Incumbent needs to become familiar with what wood or wood substitute/material to get from existing stock; how to measure and use chopper or miter saw to cut material to desired dimensions; glue/nail frame corners together; and how to use small hand tools (e.g. hammer, drill, nail punch, glass scorer, mat knife, stapler, paper cutter) to assemble the frame and cut mat board to achieve special cutting effects specified in the work order.
Mounts artwork to mat or backing assembly, secures work with retention staples; completes work with a heat seal to mount the picture to the backing; measures, scores, and breaks protective glass to proper dimensions; measures, cuts, and assembles picture hanging devices.
Assists engraver in fulfilling custom orders whether it be helping with setting up lettering and designs according to sketches using a computer graphics program or prepping materials such as nameplates, trophies, awards, etc.
Incumbent must familiarize themselves with setting up jobs to be laser etched into materials such as metal, wood, leather, etc. and sent into production with little or no supervision.
Cleans equipment and work area to ensure a safe work environment for employees and customers.
Conducts inventory, ensures pricing is accurate and current, notifies supervisor if discrepancies are found, stocks shelves and displays merchandise in respective areas.
Operates cash register or credit card machine for receiving payments from customers, gives exact change and verifies accuracy of charges.
Performs routine clerical and administrative duties for the Arts & Crafts center, prepares daily deposit paperwork and performs other related duties as assigned.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Qualifying Experience:
Must be able to read and follow simple and specific written and/or oral instructions involving duties with several distinct tasks or steps.
Must have experience using hand and power tools common to picture framing.
Must have the ability to calculate lengths, widths, and weights. Basic knowledge in using computer graphics programs required.
Must be physically able to frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 40lbs.
Must be knowledgeable and experienced with all aspects of engraving.
Must be responsible, eetail oriented, a problem solver with a team mentality and work well under pressure.
Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical.

Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
