THIS IS A NORTH DAKOTA NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.
This ND National Guard position is for a SURFACE MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST, Position Description Number D1254000 and is part of the ND G4, National Guard.
Duties
This position is located in the Joint Forces Headquarters-State, Logistics Directorate (J-4/G-4), Surface Maintenance Management Office. The primary purpose of the work is to analyze and evaluate maintenance operations, production, and procedures; and make recommendations for improvement. This requires practical knowledge of, and skill in applying, principles, concepts, and methods of surface maintenance equipment, facilities, and service operations.
Analyzes and resolves a variety of conventional maintenance management problems to improve existing maintenance operations, production, and practices that impact the overall maintenance program.
Establishes methods and procedures to ensure maintenance tasks performed meet or exceed established policies and regulations.
May serve as a member of the Command Maintenance Evaluation Team (COMET).
Oversees and provides technical guidance regarding Class IX (Class 9) repair parts management; develops policy and procedures; and evaluates and revises, as needed.
Establishes and monitors the shop safety and health program.
Requirements

- This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the ND National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
- Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.

- Applicants who are not currently a member of the ND National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the ND National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.

- Participation in direct deposition is mandatory.
- You must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
- This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
- Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.

QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicant must possesthe experience, education, or training which has provided the applicant with a knowledge of equipment maintenance work, or skill in reading engineering drawings and specifications, using test instruments, making computations, and keeping records. Experience using computer and automation systems.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must posses one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems which includes; 1) applying principles, concepts, and methods of equipment, facility, or service operations sufficient in designing projects or planning assignments; and 2) experience using well-established occupational methods and techniques to determine facility, grounds, equipment overhaul, maintenance, restoration, repair needs, etc.
OR
Master's or equivalent graduate degree.
OR
2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or higher degree.
OR
LL.B. or J.D., in a related field.
