This position is at the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) in the Office of Consumer Financial Protection. This position serves as a Consumer Affairs Specialist.
Duties
As a Consumer Affairs Specialist, you will:
Provide operational support to the NCUA Consumer Assistance Center (CAC) for the analysis and resolution of credit union member, congressional, and general public complaints.
Research federal consumer financial protection laws and regulations to respond to written and telephonic inquiries from the general public.
Draft appropriate correspondence to the complainant, credit union, or other relevant party in order to affect a prompt investigation and resolution of the complaint.
Evaluate the results of the investigations to determine if any consumer protection or consumer compliance laws or regulations governed by NCUA have been violated.
Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Suitable adjudication of background/security investigation is required.
- A probationary/trial period may be required.
- This is an essential continuity position.

Qualifications
Applicants may qualify for this position based on specialized experience, education, or a combination of both.
A. To qualify based on experience:
Specialized experience is the experience that has equipped you with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.
All applicants applying for the CU-11 level must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the CU/GS-09 level obtained in the private or public sector. Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience in all of the following:
1. Researching laws and regulations relating to consumer financial protection and compliance,
AND
2. Utilizing current compliance information to ensure timely handling of consumer complaints,
AND
3. Analyzing statistical data related to consumer protection and/or consumer compliance programs.
OR
B. To qualify based on education:
Completion of 3 full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education.
OR
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for successful job performance in the position to be filled; and included at least 6 semester hours of coursework in Accounting or equivalent courses and 3 semester hours of coursework in Introductory Auditing or equivalent courses.
OR
C. To qualify based on a combination of education and specialized experience:
A combination of qualifying education and specialized experience sufficient to meet 100% of the job requirements.
