Duties

If selected you will serve as the Command Security Officer for Coast Guard Sector New York, located within the National Park at Ft. Wadsworth on Staten Island. The position serves as a security advisor and primary point of contact for all security (personnel, physical, information, and industrial) related matters. 

Requirements

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: GS-12: To qualify for this position, you must have at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service performing the following types of tasks on a regular and recurring basis: Administers Coast Guard Security Programs by implementing enforcement of USCG, DHS and local policy and procedures. Review and evaluates reports of investigations, personnel files, and other records to recommend whether to grant, deny, revoke, suspend, or restrict security clearances consistent with national security and/or suitability issues. Coordinating and conducting vulnerability assessments on personnel, facilities, or other sensitive resources and incorporating assessment data into contingency plans and procedures. Performs operational, advisory and evaluative work to protect/safeguard classified and sensitive information; maintains security clearances and ensures reliability of employees and sensitive/classified data. Develops and maintains liaison with other Federal, State (U.S. Park Police), and local law enforcement (NYPD) and resource management agencies to share resources in order to provide additional protection of people and property on public lands. Adjudicates and reviews security cases for completeness and accuracy, conducting pre-employment checks, identifying derogatory information, and documenting issues clearly and concisely. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.  If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
