This position is located with USDA, ARS, Pacific West Area (PWA), Northwest Irrigation & Soils Research Laboratory (NISRL) in Kimberly, ID providing research program support to the location Research Scientist. **ANNOUNCEMENT IS OPEN UNTIL FILLED OR DECEMBER 31, 2024**

Duties

Lead an ongoing research program related to evaluating manure-based fertilizers on greenhouse gas emissions and soil health. Perform field work, including making gas measurements, soil and plant sampling and processing samples. Maintain project database and ensuring timely transfer of data to the main project database. Publish scientific papers and make presentations related to the project results.

Qualifications

This position requires a Ph.D in soil, plant or environmental science that has equipped the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Basic Qualification Requirement GS-1301: Applicants must meet basic Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standard's requirements of the scientific discipline necessary to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. GS-1301: Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. or Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Position experience requirements: Making greenhouse gas emissions measurements in cropping systems. Project management, soil and plant sampling. Managing data and QA/QC of data. Good organizational skills. Ability to work independently.
