Duties

Plans for current and long range operations based on workloads, trends, and projected requirements Develops methods and procedures affecting overall operations and delegates tasks to subordinate supervisors Formulates long range operating plans based on assigned mission and functions, regulatory guidance, equipment, funding and staffing requirements necessary for mission accomplishment Advises top-level installation directors on law enforcement issues impacting them and develops acceptable solutions to problems Conducts civilian personnel management responsibilities. Initiates and recommends personnel actions involving key managers and staff personnel within the department Directs, through subordinate supervisors, civilian and military law enforcement and support personnel (on a seven-day a week, 24-hour a day operation). Infrequently performs police patrol duties. Develops law enforcement programs and operating plans for the Yakima Training Center community

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • May be required to meet one year Supervisory probationary period.
  • Incumbent is required to submit a Financial Disclosure Statement, OGE-450. Executive Branch Personnel Confidential Financial Disclosure Report upon entering the position and annually, in accordance with DoD Directive.
  • Incumbent will, as appropriate, be required to wear the prescribed uniform.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain SECRET security clearance.
  • Incumbent must have a valid state driver's license.
  • Become qualified with the appropriate service weapon and maintain proficiency commensurate with duties and responsibilities.
  • Successfully complete an annual physical examination required by the position.
  • Incumbent must undergo and pass physical agility test annually.
  • Incumbent required to undergo urinalysis and drug testing.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete law enforcement training.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience in the Federal service Planning, directing, and reviewing the activities of police officers; Assigning work to subordinate police officers; Observing and evaluating the work performance of police officers; Participating in investigations; And knowledge of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. You must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Arrest/ApprehensionDecision MakingManaging Human ResourcesOral Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent(GS-09).
