This Engineering Equipment Operator position is with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Great Plains Region, Rosebud Agency Branch of Fire Management located in Rosebud, South Dakota. This is a Bargaining Unit position, for more information see What are bargaining units?

Duties

Operates various types of heavy equipment, such as, dozers, grader, cab and lowboy trailer on fires and fire related projects. Maintain records of fire management heavy equipment for servicing and repairs and schedule equipment for repairs. Perform fire line construction, and rehabilitation; grading fire roads, trails and in prescribe bum projects using different types and techniques of control lines. Reports and documents any discrepancy of equipment to the Fire Management Officer. Performs as an engine and/or hand crew member and assist with warehouse support as needed.

• In addition, the incumbent is also required to possess a Class A CDL; then obtain a tanker endorsement, within 120 days from the first day that the Incumbent reports to work.
• This position is subject to both pre-employment and random drug testing as a condition of employment. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test is received.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations (X-118C, Qualification Standard Handbook) will be used in determining applicants' qualifications. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, you must be able to demonstrate through the experience shown in your written resume and your responses to the Occupational Questionnaire that you possess the competencies to perform the duties of this position without more than normal supervision. One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
