About the Position: This is a permanent Joint Exercise Specialist position with the U.S. Army Central, G37 Training Section at Shaw AFB, SC.
Duties
Serves as SME for the Army Central (ARCENT), Army Service Component Command (ASCC) Joint Exercise Planner for exercises in the US Central Command (CENTCOM) Area of Responsibility (AOR).
Develops and manages multi-million-dollar budget using available exercise funds to support exercise design.
Manages the planning, development, and commitment of resources to the CJCS Five Year Exercise Training Plan.
Responsible for the direction, development, planning, scheduling, resourcing, and execution of numerous Army exercises and activities as well as Joint training exercises and activities.
Plans, organizes, coordinates, directs, and controls accomplishment of exercise products affecting the current and long-range operations of U.S. Army Central.
Maintains familiarity with technical and doctrinal content of current US military operations.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Secret security clearance required.
- Temporary duty (TDY) up to 25% of the time required.
- Must be capable of unencumbered travel for extensive periods of time overseas (throughout ARCENT assigned AOR) in support of exercise requirements.
- Must be able to live under field conditions in hostile or hazardous duty zones in the AOR under extreme climate conditions.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid passport.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) utilizing applicable laws and regulations pertaining to training exercises, troop requirements, Joint Staff directives; 2) developing , analyzing, and applying evaluative methods to prepare plans for numerous Joint training military exercises in a joint training environment; 3) applying various techniques for evaluating the effects of changes in exercise concept plans and funding for the command; and 4) applying knowledge of current military tactical and operational level war-fighting doctrine and tactics, and procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
