About the Position: This position is located within Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) in the Department of Radiology, Honolulu, Hawaii. Tripler Army Medical Center is a tobacco-free workplace. Duties

Develop specialized treatment planning programs for comprehensive radiation therapy management of malignant tumors. Plan patient treatment using three-dimensional (3D) computer algorithms necessary to deliver a defined radiation dose to any given volume. Download computer tomograms from CT simulator voxel. Schedule the fabrication of custom shielding and immobilization devices used in patient treatment. Instruct the therapy staff in the implementation of treatment plan accessories. Responsible for the evaluation of all treatment plans for accuracy and completeness. Assist radiation oncologist in brachytherapy, high dose radiation (hdr), intensity modulated radiation therapy (imrt) procedures.

  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 20 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • This position requires an American Registry of Radiologic Technologist Certification.
  • This position requires a Medical Dosimetry Board Certification.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirements for Therapeutic Radiologic Technologist: Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards of 42 CFR Part 75 as follows: Must have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education AND be certified as radiographers in their field. The following also meet these requirements: A. Employed as radiologic personnel by the Federal Government PRIOR TO the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986). (Note: You must submit evidence with your application of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others.) OR B. Employed as radiologic personnel by the Federal Government AFTER the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986), but (a) received training from institutions in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation OR (b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program. (Note: You must submit evidence with your application to prove training, experience, and competence. Examples of acceptable proof: transcripts, letter of recommendation, etc.) In addition to the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position, you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) performing radiation treatments on patients by applying the appropriate dose of radiation to the correct part of the body, 2) conducting patient assessments, and 3) operating a variety of specialized equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Two and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as such as Radiation Therapy. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.
