The primary purpose of this position, PATTERNMAKER, WG-4616-11 potential WG-4616-14, is to plan, design, layout, construct, alter, and repair complex molds, patterns, and core boxes from wood, composite, and other non-metallic substances.
Duties
1. Independently plan, execute, manufacture, repair and modify three dimensional patterns and molds.
2. Visualize and plan for the type of patterns or molds that will be most efficient and economical
3. Perform machine operation and bench work using precision tools
4. Utilize safety practices and procedure s following established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
TARGETED POSITIONS: This position may be filled at the WG-11, WG-12, WG-13 or the WG-14 level. Attainment of knowledge, skills, and abilities is required before promotion to the next higher grade and is dependent on demonstrated ability to perform the duties of the next higher grade level, meeting all regulatory requirements, and recommendation for promotion by the supervisor. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-4600 Wood Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

Physical Demands: The work requires prolonged standing, stooping, bending, and reaching. Frequently handles, lifts, and carries objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Incumbent carries up to 25lbs without assistance, for any weight above 25lbs the incumbent utilizes mechanical assistance such as hoists, hand trucks or human assistance.
Work Environment: Work is performed inside in a shop environment where there is dust, dirt, and fumes. Danger to the skin and eyes from flying metal chips, abrasive particles, and hot metal/parts; possibility of skin irritations from contact with various chemicals agents, lubricants, and abrasive compounds; and danger to fingers, hands, and other body parts from cutting tools, grinding wheels, rotating pieces, and moving parts of machines. Subjected to loud noise of machine shop and wood mill activities.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).
