The Transportation Assistant/Enrollment Coordinator is assigned to the Eligibility & Enrollment section of the Business Office. Occasional travel to other sites may be required.
Duties
Duties include (but are not limited to):
Responsible for the administrative processes for Veterans applying for VA health care benefits.
Determines qualifying entitlements for health care and other VA benefits.
Assists with health care benefit questions.
Works daily with all levels of the organization and with Veterans and their representatives.
Must be a strong communicator both verbally and in writing.
Must be able to work independently with multiple tasks at the same time.
Ability to build strong working relationships across the health care system.
Excellent computer skills; send/receive emails, create/edit Word and Excel documents, and access various other systems to process applications.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/05/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Identifying, analyzing, and resolving complex problems or situations; Utilizing communication skills to provide customer service; Filing and safeguarding data; updating and maintaining various automated systems.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: You will be asked to participate in a pre-employment examination or evaluation as part of the pre-employment process for this position. Questions about physical demands or environmental factors may be addressed at the time of evaluation or examination. Work is performed in an area responsible for treating patients with a wide variety of medical problems including psychiatric or substance abuse. Occasionally Veterans may be angry and potentially violent. The incumbent is frequently exposed to communicable diseases. Safety precautions are sometimes necessary. The work requires no special physical demands, but will require some physical effort such as standing, walking, bending, and sitting.
Work Environment: The work is normally performed in an office setting with occasional visits to clinic areas and other services. The work area typically is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated although the area can be congested. Must be able to work under adverse situations and function at an optimum level of concentration in an environment with frequent interruptions and many activities in progress simultaneously. The incumbent works directly with the public, clerical and professional staff of the Medical Center. The incumbent observes established safety standards and practices as defined in the current Medical Center policy. Incumbent occasionally will attend meetings and obligations at other locations.
