About the Position: This is an Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic (Heating/Ventilation/Air Conditioning) position located at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. This position is a TERM Not to Exceed 3 years position. It is time-limited and may be extended up to a maximum of eight years. ***Please see Additional Information section for more details.

Duties

Provides maintenance and repair on highly complex computer-controlled warehousing/stock handling equipment and centralized monitoring and control systems. Utilizes diagnostic and troubleshooting procedures for isolating equipment malfunctions using specifications, technical manuals, schematic diagrams/drawings. Interprets electronic, electrical, and mechanical drawings, specifications, and schematics of complete custom automated warehouse materials handling system. Performs scheduled/periodic preventive maintenance on equipment, as required in accordance with established schedules. Troubleshoots and performs repairs on AC/DC circuitry, solid state circuit boards, and sophisticated equipment. This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • The position is designated Special Sensitive requiring the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret Security Clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI).
  • The position is subject to Random Drug Testing IAW AR 600-85 and Department of Defense Directive 2010.9.
  • The incumbent of this position is subject to on-call at all times to effect needed repairs or to render assistance in emergency situations.
  • May require subject to work in confined spaces.
  • Safety boots, safety glasses, and ear plugs are required.
  • The incumbent occasionally works in adverse weather conditions and is required to wear personnel protective apparel as required by safety regulations.
  • Employee is required to have, or obtain within six months after job appointment, a National, State, and/or Local Certification or License such as a Master or Journeyman Electrician may hold.
  • TERM employment is subject to a one-year trail period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights
  • Position requires a pre-employment physical and annually thereafter.

I have the ability to perform common duties such as following Electronics Industrial Controls Mechanic (HVAC) independently under normal supervision. I can perform duties such as installations, repairs, modifications, overhauls, maintenance, troubleshoots of major complex (HVAC) Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning electronic control systems. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Use Hand and Power Tools (Electronics)Ingenuity (Ability to Suggest and Apply New Methods)Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair, etc.Theory of ElectronicsTroubleshooting (Electronic Equipment)Use of Test Equipment: Electronics PHYSICAL EFFORT Employee handles and carries tools, equipment, and test equipment weighing 50 pounds or less and is required to stoop, stretch, bend, kneel, and work in uncomfortable positions to reach parts of the system when modifying and adjusting BAS sensors or components. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is primarily performed inside but the employee may occasionally be required to work outside or in an interstitial space and cramped areas with low overheads or sudden temperature changes during maintenance or troubleshooting BAS.
