About the Position: Works under the administrative oversight of a higher-graded Branch and/or Directorate Chief. Receives assignments in terms of major objectives to be achieved, background information on requirements, and unusual aspects of assignments This is a term appointment that cannot be made permanent

Duties

Identify and define the nature and scope of obscure problems and project assumptions and derive criteria from inconclusive or variable data Technical control in selecting and establishing the proper methods for attacking and resolving their assignments which are given in terms of broad, general objectives with the project or program boundaries Responsible for planning and completing assignments that are of considerable difficulty and complexity which frequently require substantial modification, interpretation or extension of available guides Coordination of work usually extends to other Federal, state and local agencies and representatives of business and private interest for negotiation

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Able to obtain and maintain TOP SECRET security clearance
  • Require Drug Test clearance

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. You must meet one of the Basic requirements as listed below: Basic Requirement for Physical Scientist (1301): A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to one of the majors, as shown in A above, that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Assisting with general development of geospatial collections and integration program policies. 2) Supporting geospatial development and data integration objectives 3) Finding ways to store and disseminate geospatial information on an ever-changing global network utilizing a variety of technologies. AND 4) Designing and using new test procedures and approaches or modifying, adapting or extending existing methods or procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Administration and ManagementPlanning and EvaluatingProblem Solving Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).
