You will serve as a Materials Handler in the Supply Operations, Supply Chain Management Department of NAVSUP FLEET LOGISTICS CENTER NORFOLK.

Duties

You will receive freight accompanied by appropriate documents from both commercial and government agencies. You will unload materials and equipment using forklifts, hydraulic floor jacks, hand carts or other material handling equipment normally used in warehouse operations. You will assist supervisor in planning, storage and arrangement of stored material ensuring efficient utilization of space and adherence to regulations. You will check depot level repair materials against documents, reviews for errors, and obtains signatures as required for tracking and auditing purposes. You will be responsible for receiving and issuing stock and general consumables and operating supplies for various customers. You will ensure safe receipt, storage, and movement of HAZMAT according to prescribed procedures.

Requirements

  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • The incumbent "may" be coded as "key" and as such maybe be required to be removed from their military recall status.
  • You may be required to lift up to 45lbs in weight.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current forklift license.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You may be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination
  • You may be required to obtain/maintain proper licensing (such as CDL A, B, or C if required).
  • You may be required to obtain/maintain a government operator permit.
  • You may be required to obtain/maintain a HAZMAT certification to transport hazardous materials.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You may be required to distinguish between basic colors and shades of color.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. The Screen-out Element for this position is: The ability to do the work as demonstrated through experience working under normal supervision performing warehousing activities including completing verification against invoices in packing lists; utilizing automated data bases for receiving, storing and supply materials and equipment; following prescribed methods when handling HAZMAT materials; unloading materials utilizing a variety of material handling equipment like forklifts.
