Duties

You will set up and perform laboratory assays according to established methodology using equipment. You will perform diagnostic testing and studies for treatment control and operating adjustments required to maintain quality control standards for the Station potable water, industrial wastewater, and domestic wastewater systems. You will arrange for select samples for controlled cultures, preparation of slides, and bacteriological analysis. You will prepare data for inclusion in reports for the regulatory authorities. You will assist in the preparation and timely submission of the several chemical biological reports.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Use equipment such as gas chromatographs, atomic absorption spectrophotometers, autoclaves, centrifuges, stills, graphite furnaces, incubators. Perform laboratory assays and evaluate and interpret the results. Perform diagnostic tests for treatment control and special test to analysis contaminated POL's and hazardous wastes. Continue maintenance and calibration of laboratory instruments and equipment for a more accurate performance. Select samples for bacteriological analysis and compare results to environmental regulations. Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management website: Examples of qualifying specialized experience include work in the fields of astronomy, physics, geophysics, chemistry, hydrology, health physics, engineering, electronics, geology, oceanography, and metallurgy. Experience as a laboratory mechanic or in a trade or craft may be credited as general or specialized experience when the work was performed in close association with physical scientists or other technical personnel and provided intensive knowledge of appropriate scientific principles, methods, techniques, and precedents. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
