About the Position: This position is located with the U.S. Army Research and Development Center (ERDC), Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory, Flood & Storm Protection Division, River Engineering Branch.
This position is being filled at the full performance level DB-04, equivalent to the GS-12/14.
Duties
Guides new or junior personnel to understand their role in the overall mission, to actively participate in the work of the organization, to participate in identifying issues to be resolved or methods to be improved.
Serves as a senior mentor to journeymen, analysts, specialists; provides guidance and advice on leadership, project management and/or communication issues.
Serves as an objective confidant and advisor with whom the mentee may discuss work-related and other concerns related to career development and planning.
Maintains program reference materials, project files and relevant background documents and makes available policies, procedures, and written instructions from the supervisor.
Communicates the organization's strategic plan, mission, vision and values and ensures these are integrated into work plans, products and services, work strategies, goals and objectives.
Requirements
- This is a Term position scheduled to last 2 Years or 24 Months. A Term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires pre-employment financial disclosure and annually thereafter in accordance with DoD Directive 5500-7-R.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
- This position requires the incumbent to work on an intermittent or unscheduled, on-call basis.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes participation as expert mentor/advisor in regards to Civil Engineering in complex research projects while also working to solve problems related to riverine applications such as river and erosion processes, hydrology, and fluvial geomorphology. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service DB-02 (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone - no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).

This position is covered by the Science and Technology Laboratory Personnel Management Demonstration Project at the DB-0810-04 (equivalent to GS-12 to GS-14). In accordance with the Federal Register Vol. 63, No. 57, dated March 25, 1998, an employee of the Laboratory Demonstration project must have a current average performance score of 2.5 or above in order to be selected for promotion.
