Duties
Installs piston rings; adjusts carburetors; repairs or replaces reduction gears, steering and throttle controls, propellers, shafts, blades and other parts.
Supervises a wheeled vehicle maintenance shop within Bravo Company, Support Battalion, Special Warfare Training Group (Airborne), and exercise full supervisory responsibility over work operations involving subordinate employees.
Completes applicable maintenance forms and records. Performs preventive maintenance on tools, repair parts and equipment.
Determines proper tools and equipment to be used for organizational maintenance tasks; performs repairs and preventive maintenance checks and services in accordance with appropriate maintenance allocation (MAC).
Performs major and minor overhaul, repair, replacement and adjustment on diesel or gasoline engines, manual and automatic shift transmissions, transfer cases, differentials, axles, drive shafts; brakes systems.
Disassembles motors to examine parts for defects; determines and obtains replacement parts required.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
- The incumbent must possess and maintain a Universal (types I, II and III) Freon handling certification as required by 40 CFR Part 82, subpart F.
- The incumbent must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
- This position is designated as essential during inclement weather.
- The employee is required to successfully pass physical examinations as required by Federal and Office of Safety and Occupational Health Administration guides.
- This position is subject to rotating shifts, weekend and or holiday work schedules.
- This position requires Drug Testing.
- One-year probationary period may be required.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to Lead or Supervise. I have the ability to perform the most difficult and complex tasks including Planning daily, weekly, and monthly work schedules, assigning task to be performed. Establishing priorities on the basis of general work schedules and methods and policies established by higher levels of supervision. Training others in new duties; explaining manuals and work procedures, motivating employees to work efficiently and productively and determining work procedures checks and troubleshoot component ,perform organization level maintenance of general cargo administrative and tactical type automotive vehicles at the motor pool; administer tests and operates vehicles and equipment as required and observes for evidence of abnormal operation. I am skilled in performing operator and organizational maintenance on above type automotive vehicles which typically includes the following: Checking fuel and brake systems to ensure proper operation; checking air tanks and hydrovacs for proper functioning; and replacing air valves as required. Pulling and packing wheels, checking and adjusting wheel bearings.

SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE Must have full knowledge of the makeup, operation, and installation of all components, assemblies, and power generation / vehicle systems. Must know when and how far major components should be torn down, what parts and mechanisms can be reworked and refitted or should be replaced with new parts, and the type and extent of adjustment and alignment required. Must be skilled in the use of a wide variety of test equipment. A working knowledge of six sigma practices is desired, but not required.
RESPONSIBILITY Issues instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines, and ensures work assignments are completed. Provides information or decisions regarding problems that arise during work. Analyzes work operations for status, progress, causes of delays, and other problems.
PHYSICAL EFFORT To accomplish work, must stand, stoop, bend, stretch, crawl, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts equipment weighing 35 to 45 pounds; occasionally lifts assemblies or other equipment weighing over 45 pounds with assistance.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Usually works inside in noisy and drafty areas with hard surfaces and is exposed to dirt, grease, and fumes. May work outside in inclement weather, in heat and humidity, mud or snow and in wet or icy conditions. May be subject to skin irritations, fumes, dust, cuts, bruises, shocks, burns and strains. Subject to noise levels above 85 decibels (A) and requires use of protective devices, such as protective hearing devices, hard hats, steel-toed shoes, gloves, respirators and protective clothing. Some of these safety items may be uncomfortable to wear or use, and may be worn or used for long periods.
