Duties

Serves as Assistant Fire Chief with responsibility for aiding in the overall management of the Fire Department. Provides fire protection for ammunition/agent areas. Performs personnel management responsibilities for subordinates supervised. Communicate fire inspection and protection information ensuring the information is clear, concise, organized, and convincing.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of pre-employment and periodic subsequent medical examination in accordance with DoDM 6055.06 to ensure continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer. Incumbent will be required to wear chemical protective equipment, respirators, safety glasses, etc.
  • This position requires the incumbent to wear the prescribed uniform and/or personal protective equipment while on duty.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. The employee is subject to 24 hours workday, 72 hours work week which may include nights, weekends, and holidays. May be subject to recall.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime. This position performs, as required, mutual aid support to local fire departments.
  • The work requires the incumbent to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid state and government driver's license is required.
  • Shift work required of this position.
  • Position requires the incumbent be a Chemical Accident/Incident Response Assistance (CAIRA) responder.
  • This position is "Emergency-Essential". In crisis or wartime, this position takes precedence over any transportation agreement or military recall status. The incumbent must continue to perform the duties and requirements of the position.
  • TDY up to 25% may be required.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one-year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

In addition to the specialized experience above, this position requires that you to possess and maintain all of the following Department of Defense, International Fire Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (Pro Board) equivalent certifications: (Please note: All certifications must be uploaded at time of application): Fire Officer III Fire Inspector II Fire Instructor II Hazardous Material Incident Command HAZMAT Technician, Driver Operator - Pumper State or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician (Basic) Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.
