Duties

You will perform work involved in the repair and maintenance of a wide range of equipment and vehicles. You will assist higher graded heavy mobile equipment mechanics in the disassembling, repairing, and assembling of major systems, components, and operating mechanisms associated with the vehicle parts that require repair. You will assist, when needed, in the complete overhaul and repair of major systems such as engines, transmissions, drivelines, and hydraulic utility systems. You will remove, adjust, and/or replace defective or worn parts and components. You will replace seals and shaft sealing rings, wiring harnesses, starting switches, sensors, fuel pumps, adjust voltage and current control devices, engine idle, brakes, and transmission linkages.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position requires exposure to high noise levels.
  • You will be exposed to a variety of unpleasant weather conditions.
  • You will frequently lift items, unassisted, weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • You will be subject to cuts, burns, chemical irritations, bruises, electrical shock, and injuries from falls while repairing, positioning, and moving equipment.
  • The incumbent is responsible for the accountability of tools that are issued to them. Misuse of Government property is cause for disciplinary action, to include removal.
  • You will work on top of, under, and in tight compartments of equipment in cramped or awkward positions.

Qualifications

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of a Heavy Mobile Equipment Repairer without no more than normal supervision such as: Perform common tasks such as: repair and maintain a wide range of equipment and vehicles and remove, adjust, and/or replace defective or worn parts and components of said vehicles.
