The primary purpose of this position is to serve as principal office assistant and executive specialist. Performs additional duties designed to directly relieve leadership of administration responsibilities that contribute to public relations with high-level military/civilian officials, business/civic leaders, and other external entities.
Duties
Performs full range of executive management duties required to support assigned USSPACECOM senior staff member in the performance of official duties. Receives office calls and visitors, accurately ascertaining the nature of the requests and providing complete clear information that addresses routine and non-routine, or procedural processing issues.
Serves in the capacity of Confidential Assistant. Performs duties of a highly confidential nature in the "privileged communications" category; receives such communications for and from the USSPACECOM senior staff member. Acts as custodian of sensitive correspondence.
Prepares a full range of recurring and non-recurring personal and executive correspondence, reports, and other documents from information obtained from the staff, files, and other sources.
Manages official and social appointments; interacts directly with the assigned USSPACECOM senior staff member to determine official and social commitments as well as official travel requirements.
Performs other clerical and administrative work in support of the office/organization. Develops, establishes, updates, and maintains office procedures and records/files of various types to ensure effective and efficient operation of the office. Serves as liaison between the supervisor and subordinate units.
Uses multiple office automation software with varied functions to produce a wide range of documents that often require complex formats such as graphics or tables within text, editing and reformatting electronic drafts, and updating or revising existing databases or spreadsheets.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NK-02, equivalent to the next to lower grade GS-07 or equivalent in the Federal Service. Specialized experience must include preparing and proofreading/editing correspondence and documents for correct grammar, spelling, capitalization, punctuation and format, maintaining files/records, making and preparing travel arrangements, locating, assembling and composing information for various reports, inquiries, and nontechnical correspondence, independently noting and following-up on commitments made at meetings/conferences, reviewing and processing incoming and outgoing correspondence, receiving, greeting, and answering questions from visitors and telephone callers, maintaining supervisor's calendar, and coordinating, scheduling or organizing meetings and/or conferences to include arrangements such as attendance, location and time.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Thorough knowledge of extensive rules, procedures, or operations applied to executive secretarial and clerical assignments to perform the procedural and administrative work of the office, such as preparing and editing documents, maintaining files/records, making and preparing travel arrangements, locating, assembling and composing information for various reports, inquiries, and nontechnical correspondence.
2. Knowledge of office functions and commitments of supervisor and staff to prepare and review correspondence, to screen telephone calls and visitors, to maintain supervisor's calendar, and to perform other substantive or administrative work of the organization.
3. Knowledge of correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and format to accurately prepare and edit written correspondence and reports.
4. Skill in typing and the use of various office automation software programs, tools, and techniques to support office operations and produce a variety of documents such as letters, reports, spreadsheets, databases, and graphs.
5. Skill sufficient to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; negotiate difficult administrative issues; and maintain good working relationships with diverse groups and executive-level command management.
6. Ability to analyze reports and studies to encourage understanding, acceptance of findings, and recommendations.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Additional Conditions of Employment:
Position is designated special-sensitive and requires the employee obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET (TS) security clearance with eligibility for access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), other intelligence-related Special Sensitive information, or involvement in Top Secret Special Access Programs (SAP) to fully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. A non-disclosure agreement must be signed.
This position has been designated as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Testing Program. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, USSPACECOM, national security, and public safety. Therefore, incumbent is required to: (a) refrain from the use of illegal drugs and misuse of prescription medication, and (b) if requested, submit to urinalysis testing on short notice.
