You will serve as a Crane Operator in the Longshoring Branch, Ocean Terminals Division, Operations Department of NAVSUP FLT LOGISTICS CNTR PEARL HARBOR.

Duties

You will use ship-mounted winches/turret cranes, gantry or hydraulic boom cranes to lift a variety of heavy, commercial and tactical machinery, equipment and vehicles that loading, maintenance, or discharge evolutions and/or shore support operations. You will move, stack, and position material on trucks, piers, loading docks, and staging areas. You will operate forklifts up to 56,000 pounds capacity, warehouse tractors up to 4000 pound, and Government vehicles in the performance of work. You will assist in the fabrication, repairing, and installation of standing and running rigging gear, such as lifting slings, towing bridles, nets, ladders, and other weight handling gear from wire or fiber rope. You will perform daily operator maintenance and prepare Operator’s Daily Check List (ODCL) in accordance with OSHA and Navy directives.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Forklift license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a CDL-B License.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to perform common duties of a Crane Operator as demonstrated by experience operating cranes at all boom lengths, angles, and positions up to rated capacities; performing operator maintenance and preparing an Operator's Daily Check List; planning for safety and clearance factors; operating mobile or ship mounted cranes; determining critical lift plans; using cranes to load and unload equipment and supplies where obstructions, such as ship's masts and antenna are in the way; ensuring clearances for load lift, movement, and placement; working in close coordination with ground personnel, such as Riggers including following hand signals, radio directions, and a load guided by a tag line; possessing knowledge of rigging standards and methods; assisting in selecting or installing rigging gear. I possess a valid state issued Commercial Driver's License, Class B or higher. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
