About the Position: This position is located at the Directorate of Industrial Operations, Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.
Duties
Collect hazardous waste in preparation for disposal.
Maintain Safety Data Sheets to ensure compliance with regulations.
Operate a forklift used for transporting waste containers/drums.
Perform inventory checks on hazardous waste material.
Identify hazardous material to appropriate areas within activity, in accordance with Resources Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must obtain and maintain Secret Security Clearance.
- Must be willing to undergo pre- employment and annual physical.
- Must be willing to obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License.
- Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.
- Must be willing to obtain and maintain a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR ) certification.
- Must be willing to obtain and maintain a government forklift license to lift 6,000 lb.
- Must be able to wear protection gear and/or clothing with other associated equipment.
- Must undergo pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter as this is testing designated position (TDP).
- Must obtain and maintain First Aid certification.
- Must complete Defensive Hazardous Materials Handling Course and OSHA Training.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Hazardous Waste Disposer (Forklift Operator) without more than normal supervision. I can identify all hazardous waste/material in accordance with applicable environmental regulations, federal and state guidelines; ensure all drums/containers are marked/label contents and ensure all required documentation is attached to drums/containers for transportation. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT
Must be physically fit, normal use of both arms and legs, and possess good vision and hearing. Position requires frequent standing, walking, kneeling, stooping, bending, and working in uncomfortable positions. Physical handling of hazardous waste and hazardous materials will be routine. May be required to lift or carry items that weigh up to 75 pounds, shifting/relocating heavier items using material handling equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Working conditions are both hazardous and disagreeable. Work involves regular and recurring exposure to hazardous waste and hazardous materials with various characteristics, such as toxicity or irritation. Incumbent must wear personal protective equipment as required and is subject to occasional cuts, scrapes and bruises. Works indoors and outdoors in all types of weather.
