This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Coast Guard, Deputy Commandant for Operations, Assistant Commandant for Prevention Policy, Inspections and Compliance Directorate, National Vessel Documentation Center, in Falling Waters, WV. 

Duties

The incumbent will serve as a Collections Clerk, responsible for collecting payment of fees charged by the U.S. Coast Guard for vessel documentation.Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.

Qualifications

AT THE GS-4 level: Applicants must have at least 1 year of general experience. Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.OR 2 years of education above high school.AT THE GS-5 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level if in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include: Clerical work; Receiving payment of fees; maintaining, balancing, and reconciling records; and maintaining records. OR4 years above high school.COMBINING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Combinations of successfully completed education and experience may be used to meet the total qualification requirements. Under this provision, the total of both percentages, education and experience, must equal at 100%. At the GS- 5, only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements listed above. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
