About the Position: MONCRIEF ARMY HEALTH CLINIC, DEPARTMENT OF PRIMARY CARE AMBULANCE SERVICE, FT. JACKSON, SC 29207

Duties

Prioritize treatments for patient having multiple problems and employ a variety of established emergency medicine techniques, methods and equipment to the appropriate medical facility. As a Supervisory Paramedic, you will perform the following: Supervise, plan, direct, and review the work of an Ambulance Section, which provides emergency medical care support to a large number of eligible personnel. Developing and/or revising written instructions, SOPs, etc, pertaining to work of the Ambulance Section. Respond both off- and on-site to all types of emergencies, sometimes encountering situations that are life threatening and making an independent preliminary assessment as to the scene’s safety and the patient's status. Based on this preliminary assessment, you will make choices as to how best to provide stabilizing medical interventions prescribed in protocols and, if necessary, make modifications to these protocols within prescribed limits. Administer medications as needed, as well as recognize and determine the causes and basic medical implications of closed and open soft tissue wounds. Exercise extreme care when examining, administering emergency care, and transporting the victim to prevent further discomfort, injury, or death. Exercise control and direction over fire suppression personnel in the application of basic emergency medical procedures and treatment protocols. Gather as much information as possible about the victim, the cause, and effects of the illness/injury in a short time in order to quickly initiate medical treatment. Operate emergency vehicles in a variety of environmental and traffic conditions in emergency sites while independently taking into consideration traffic patterns, environmental factors, hospital location and status, and road conditions.

Requirements

  • The incumbent is required to perform shift work and/or work on rotating shifts to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, and holidays and in other situations.
  • This position is designated essential during inclement weather or appropriate emergency conditions and the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work during inclement weather.
  • In accordance with Army Regulation 40-68 all health care personnel assigned, or subject to reassignment, to duties involving the provision of patient care, will possess and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification of training.
  • The incumbent is required to possess and maintain a current certification by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians - Paramedics (NREMT-P).
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Criminal history background check with childcare background checks required.
  • Less than 25% temporary duty travel MAY be required.
  • This position requires wear of a uniform and personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary.
  • This is a Testing Drug Position (TDP). You will be subject to initial/entry testing and random drug testing as a condition of employment.
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required if not already completed in accordance with 5 CFR criteria.
  • This position requires immunization screening. You may be required to show proof of other immunizations.
  • This position has been designated a high-risk position for contracting and/or transmitting the influenza virus. Annual influenza vaccination is the most effective method for preventing influenza virus infections or transmitting influenza to others.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-10 grade level in the Federal service which includes work that involves: 1) Assessing the condition of the patient and identifying diagnostic signs and symptoms in order to determine the nature and extent of illness or injury and establishing priority for emergency care; 2) Recognizing when treatment of an injury or illness requires the administration of a pharmaceutical and selecting the correct medication for the appropriate treatment regime as outlined in protocols or by physician direction; 3) Coordinating on-the-job training for assigned personnel, making work assignments, answering questions, and providing advice and assistance.
