This position serves as the Supply Technician for the Sterile Processing Service (SPS) - Case Cart Assembly Section of the Loma Linda VA Medical Center. As the Supply Technician, you will ensure to provide critical and semi-critical reusable medical equipment (RME) (instrument sets, scopes, etc.) and medical supplies to Surgery Service (Operating Room). In addition, fulfill all the duties and responsibilities of purchasing (credit card) requirements.
Duties
Major duties and responsibilities include:
Ensure availability of critical and semi-critical reusable medical equipment (RME) and medical supplies required for surgical procedures.
Forecasts short and long-range inventory needs under constantly changing technological and program requirements; considers factors as usage, essentiality, availability of warehouse space and budgetary limitations.
Develops catalog data, levels and replenishment needs for new and rental items.
Plans requirements, both quantitative and monetary, to satisfy customer needs and be sensitive to total inventory, status of commodity in relationship to changes in demand, funds, lead time, delivery schedules, fluctuations of seasonal items or changes in customer patterns and marketing trends.
Observes items having annual dollar sales value, fast moving items, items that are likely to become excess and other items involving special problems.
Independently makes daily decisions in order to achieve supply responsiveness within fund authorization.
Initiates request actions for items necessary to maintain effective supply support available from GSA, DLSA, local procurement, Federal Supply Schedules and Decentralized contracts, insuring proper commitment of all requests prior to release of orders.
Coordinates with the SPS Chief and Assistant and /or their representative regarding sources of supply and acceptable substitutions when the standard items are in short supply or unavailable from the normal source of supply.
Procures technical services and component parts required for maintenance overhaul, modifications and repair of non-medical equipment and systems located in SPS.
Reviews non-issuable stock listings and determining the reasons for items being in a non-issuable status.
Initiates appropriate action to adjust or remove items in non-issuable status.
Determines inactive and long supply stock items and coordinates the issue and shipment of such items to other VA facilities, or other appropriate action as prescribed.
Controls, adjustments, takes action and keeps records pertaining to all operational, surgical instrumentation and medical equipment rentals.
Adjust records pertaining to all damaged, requiring exchange or needed to be temporarily removed from active stock records (or unposted items) for any other reason.
Collaborates with Surgery's (Operating Room) liaison to verify types and number of case carts required for surgical procedures.
Pulls all necessary instrumentation and medical supplies for each required case cart by working off the required Doctor Preference Card and medical supply list(s).
Verifies the integrity of all critical and semi-critical RME and medical supplies have not been compromised prior to loading into case carts.
Works closely with the Quality Assurance Coordinator to ensure all Doctor Preference Cards are up-to-date with accurate information.
Analyzes quotations received from vendors (offerors) and makes award to the lowest responsive responsible offeror submitting the most advantageous offer to the Government considering price, discounts, transportation costs, delivery time and specification requirements.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/05/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: (1) providing critical and semi-critical reusable medical equipment (RME) and medical supplies to Surgery Service (Operating Room) and verifies and builds case carts for surgical procedures (2) managing a database containing all accountable equipment to verify information on receipts and requisitions (3) processing purchase orders and issuing payment with a purchase card (4) receiving, storing, and distributing medical and surgical supplies, instruments and other material (5) pulling stock, replenishing stock and maintaining records on stock levels; monitoring expiration dates and (6) cleaning assigned areas in accordance with aseptic principles .

Physical Requirements: Work requires standing and walking during the workday and frequent bending and lifting of instrument sets/trays/containers (occasionally weighing as much as 25 pounds) and medical supplies; otherwise, the job is sedentary.
