The primary purpose of this position, ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN, GS-0802-11, is to provide engineering technical support for depot-level maintenance, repair, and modification for the organization and Rivet MILE Program (Minuteman Integrated Life Extension Program) and Minuteman Integrated Long Range Planning Program.

Duties

Function as the field engineering technician for the depot level maintenance teams working independently at remote missile sites and for on-base depot support area personnel. Solve problems beyond the scope of technical data for the Rivet MILE (Minuteman Integrated Life Extension Program) weapons systems and support equipment. Interpret guideline materials. Inspect and evaluate missile facilities. Utilize state of the art computer aided design applications. Utilize safety and security practices and procedures following established rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work area.

  • This is a Testing Designated Position. Employee must pass initial and periodic short-notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
  • The incumbent must be able to work in confined spaces.
  • The incumbent must be certified in the Personal Reliability Program (PRP) as outlined in AFI 36-2104.
  • The incumbent is required to wear all appropriate protective clothing and safety equipment in certain areas of the DSA and missile sites.

Qualifications

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions, to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) Engineering Technical Series 0802. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. GS-11 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower grade (GS-09), or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as: Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes and/or Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, applicants within 120-days of completion of TIG requirements are encouraged to apply. Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of guidelines, precedents, and engineering principles and practices related to mechanical and electrical engineering; familiarity with other engineering disciplines and practices. Knowledge of engineering and construction standards, methods, practices and techniques, materials, and equipment to determine compliance with federal, state, and local codes and regulations. Knowledge of automated data processing concepts, systems capabilities, and usage to effectively accomplish assigned functions. Knowledge of health, safety and environmental requirements as outlined in applicable standards, regulations and/or technical orders. Ability to analyze, interpret and apply rules, regulations, and procedures in a variety of situations and recommend timely and economical solutions. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is primarily sedentary. Some work may require periods of walking, standing, bending, climbing, or driving a motor vehicle. Employees may carry light items such as books, instruments, and other similar materials. The work does not require any special physical effort. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices and meeting rooms.
