This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing Domestic Defense Industrial Base Facilities and the Major Range and Test Facilities Base to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Serves as Chemical Equipment Repairer for Pine Bluff Arsenal in Pine Bluff Arkansas.
Duties
Perform a variety of checks, tests, adjustments, and troubleshooting tasks to determine the need for and the performance of repair and operation work.
Repair equipment by dismantling, overhauling, installing repair parts, and reassembling.
Disassemble instruments/components, inspecting for worn or damaged parts.
Fabricate repair parts as required and repair broken, bent, twisted or torn metal parts using various shop equipment.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- Must obtain and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver's License within 90 days of employment.
- Emergency overtime, non-traditional work shifts, and travel may be required.
- The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Chemical Equipment Repairer ~ without more than normal supervision. The repair and replacement work on decontamination pumps, heaters, and electric motors; modifying and fabricating equipment; determining the extent of major repairs to perform by referring to work orders, manuals, inspection reports and records; I am skilled in using a variety of hand and power tools, special measuring instruments such as micrometer, dial and feeler gages, torque wrenches and other test equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work is performed on hard surfaces and in work areas requiring standing, stooping, bending and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions for extended periods. Frequently lift and carry items, unassisted, weighing up to 40 pounds, and often exert similar effort in pushing, pulling, and positioning parts, assemblies, and equipment. Hand trucks, dollies and other workers are available for assistance with heavier items. Sometimes incumbent works from ladders or work platforms at varying heights. Incumbent drives a class of vehicle requiring a CDL when performing operational checks.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is generally performed inside the maintenance shop and occasionally outside. Individuals are exposed to sparks and flames in welding and cutting operations. Individuals may occasionally be required to wear respiratory protective equipment and protective clothing. When outside, may work in bad weather, mud, snow, wet, or icy areas. Is frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, hard damp floor or ground. Typical work involves parts and systems, which are dirty, oily, or greasy. Position exhibits frequent exposure t the possibility of receiving cuts, burns, bruises and sprains while repairing, positioning, and moving equipment. Often exposed to the possibility of burns and skin irritations from acid, fluids, and lubricants. Prescribed safety practices and safety equipment/apparel is required.
