Duties

In this position, you will: Perform critical evaluation of data, correlations, and predictions for thermophysical and thermochemical properties, with a focus on small molecular organic compounds and their mixtures Generate reports on data quality based upon completeness of description, physical consistency, and consistency with literature Manage work queues for affiliated data entry personnel Direct programs to improve quantitative predictions of thermophysical and thermochemical properties based on state-of-the-art quantum chemical methods Direct programs to produce custom equations of state for pure compounds and mixtures based on the methods developed by Dr. Eric Lemmon for the implementation and optimization of Span-Wagner-type equations of state Publish work on equation of state development and quantitative thermophysical and thermochemical property prediction methods in the open scientific literature

Qualifications

Individual Occupational Requirements Basic Requirements: 1. Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. OR 2. Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to the basic requirements, applicants must also have 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 (ZP-III at NIST) level. Specialized Experience is defined as: Experience with development of multiparameter thermodynamic equations of state using non-linear fitting. Experience with experimental measurement of thermodynamic properties. Experience with critical evaluation of experimental fluid property data. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
