The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of duties associated with the collection, deposit, tracking, and expenditure of fee revenue and donations collected from the public under legal authorities. Carries out a wide variety of clerical and technical assignments that involve the application of fee program knowledge and the policies, procedures, and practices of fee collection.
Duties
Badlands National Park: Serve as a front-line, uniformed representative of the NPS, answering visitor questions and explaining the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, concession operated facilities and services, campground availability, hiking trails, etc. Perform assignments in accordance with all NPS and U.S. Treasury regulations governing the handling of government funds. Research and resolve a variety of non-routine problems with reservations made through automated reservation systems that include but are not limited to Recreation.gov and other, automated or manual management platforms. Process reservation arrivals and departures; create, modify, and/or cancel reservations; monitor inventory, quotas, and reservable versus first-come, first-served availability. Submit Helpdesk tickets to system contractors and/or review and track payment transactions if appropriate. Resolve complaints and conflicts and refer issues to a supervisor or higher graded employee when necessary. Assist in the orientation, mentoring, and training of new employees, volunteers, and/or interns in fee collection, remittance, and/or deposits. Troubleshoot issues with fee program related technologies and equipment that include hardware, software, and peripheral devices such as hand-held devices, computers, point-of-sale (POS) equipment, registers, tablets, mobile phones, scanning devices, AFMs, and reservation systems.

Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. The employee will work during annually recurring periods of employment, which will last at least six (6) months but total less than twelve (12) months per calendar year. When operational needs and/or funds are not available, the selectee will be placed in non-pay status. Placement in non-pay status will not be on a sporadic, occasional, or unplanned basis. The season is expected to last nine (9) months, early/mid March through late November. The employee is expected to be in non-duty/non-pay status from early December through early early.mid March.

Qualifications

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience.
For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected.
To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess at least one or all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of a Recreation Fee Technician. My specialized experience includes providing information or assistance to the public in a business or recreation setting; instructing groups of people or individuals; and compiling and analyzing information to report. My experience also includes handling, tracking, or depositing monies; using software programs to maintain fees and accountable property; resolving issues that arise and assisting staff with fee issues; and using tools or equipment (e.g., cash registers, credit card machine, etc.) to make sales transactions. EDUCATION: Successful completion of 4 years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.

Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. Note: When combining education and experience, only education more than the first 60 semester hours may be used. For example, six (6) months of the specialized experience described above (50% of the experience requirement), and three (3) years of college study from an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education in excess of the first 60 semester hours) as specified above, equals 100% of the total requirement. You MUST submit a copy of your transcripts as indicated above.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
CTAP/ICTAP Statement: Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection.
