The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of duties associated with the collection, deposit, tracking, and expenditure of fee revenue and donations collected from the public under legal authorities. Carries out a wide variety of clerical and technical assignments that involve the application of fee program knowledge and the policies, procedures, and practices of fee collection.

Duties

Badlands National Park: Serve as a front-line, uniformed representative of the NPS, answering visitor questions and explaining the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, concession operated facilities and services, campground availability, hiking trails, etc. Perform assignments in accordance with all NPS and U.S. Treasury regulations governing the handling of government funds. Research and resolve a variety of non-routine problems with reservations made through automated reservation systems that include but are not limited to Recreation.gov and other, automated or manual management platforms. Process reservation arrivals and departures. Submit Helpdesk tickets to system contractors and/or review and track payment transactions if appropriate. Resolve complaints and conflicts and refer issues to a supervisor or higher graded employee when necessary. Assist in the orientation, mentoring, and training of new employees, volunteers, and/or interns in fee collection, remittance, and/or deposits. Troubleshoot issues with fee program related technologies and equipment that include hardware, software, and peripheral devices such as hand-held devices, computers, point-of-sale (POS) equipment, registers, tablets, mobile phones, scanning devices, AFMs, and reservation systems. The season is expected to last nine (9) months, early/mid March through late November. The employee is expected to be in non-duty/non-pay status from early December through early early/mid March. You work at a visitor center, campground or other visitor contact station, collecting fees and providing answers to visitor questions about recreational opportunities, interpretive services, and concession facilities and services. You distribute maps and brochures, provide directions through the park and inform visitors of potential safety hazards. As you're responsible for collecting fees and following accountability guidelines for handling government funds and assisting with remittance. You must pass a required background investigation. May perform campground duties such as collecting fees, monitoring campground self-registration collection activities, checking site availability, and conduct compliance checks of campground users to ensure proper payment of fees. Safeguards funds collected and personal accountable stock. Other duties may include a variety of visitor services such as traffic control. Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-09/03/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess at least one or all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of a Recreation Fee Technician. My specialized experience includes providing information or assistance to the public in a business or recreation setting; instructing groups of people or individuals; and compiling and analyzing information to report. My experience also includes handling, tracking, or depositing monies; using software programs to maintain fees and accountable property; resolving issues that arise and assisting staff with fee issues; and using tools or equipment (e.g., cash registers, credit card machine, etc.) to make sales transactions. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. Treanscript is required. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. Note: When combining education and experience, only education more than the first 60 semester hours may be used. For example, six (6) months of the specialized experience described above (50% of the experience requirement), and three (3) years of college study from an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education in excess of the first 60 semester hours) as specified above, equals 100% of the total requirement. You MUST submit a copy of your transcripts as indicated above. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. Well qualified means that the applicant meets the following: OPM qualification standards for the position; all selective placement factors, where applicable; special qualifying conditions that OPM has approved for the position, where applicable; is physically qualified with reasonable accommodation, where appropriate to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position upon entry; and is rated by the organization at least at the well qualified level on all competencies. Federal employees seeking CTAP/ICTAP eligibility must submit proof that they meet the requirements of 5 CFR 330.605(2) for CTAP and 5 CFR 330.704 for ICTAP.
