This position is located in the National Weather Service (NWS), Western Region, IT/Computer Systems Branch (ITCSB), with one vacancy that is location negotiable after selection.

Duties
As an IT Specialist (SYSADMIN), you will perform the following duties:
Lead a team performing system administration of Windows servers in a physical and VMware virtualized environment; installation of operating systems; patch management; standardizing baseline configurations; system administration of associated hardware, and software systems; and monthly scanning and reporting to validate IT security compliance.
Review requirements of projects to determine objectives of the program, concepts, nature of the unprocessed data, and processes required in support of the computer effort to organize work processes and problems for computer solution. The incumbent will provide the AD team with priorities, managing the team to complete project tasks assigned.
Oversee the creation and testing of security compliance mitigations for the Windows servers and workstations. Advise the Branch Chief on roll out strategies for new configurations. Design and maintain a record keeping system as necessary. Document all programs and systems.

AND
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
To qualify at the GS-13 level:
Applicants must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal Service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following:
Performing system administration of Windows servers in a physical and VMware virtualized environment;
Contributing to provide system administration services to meet operational and organizational needs; and
Monitoring operations and maintenance of the enterprise Windows environment for reliable performance.
