Duties

Motor Vehicle Operator Duties: Incumbent operates 1 ton and ¾ ton pick-up truck. Vehicles are used to haul trash, ashes from fire rings, and recycle materials from the recreational sites to the dumpsters. Incumbent also empties all trash cans, picks up litter, and cleans charcoal grills in the picnic areas. These vehicles do not exceed 10,000 lbs. gross vehicle weight (OVW) and when pulling the trailer, the combined gross vehicle weight (CGVW) does not exceed 10,000 lbs. These vehicles are driven based on specific trip assignment or regularly established schedules over public roads (or the equivalent) at highway speeds to transport personnel, materials, or equipment. Incumbent loads and unloads the vehicle by hand, sometimes receiving help from other workers. Incumbent ensures that the cargo is protected from the weather and that it is properly distributed and secured to prevent damage or loss while in transit. The driver makes certain that any equipment being towed does not exceed the maximum weight allowable for the vehicle being driven, and that it is connected to the vehicle according to local and federal regulations. Incumbent performs operator maintenance and wash their vehicles in compliance with established policies. They complete trip tickets, preventive maintenance records, and accident reports. Custodial Duties: Incumbent performs custodial duties, which include the cleaning of offices and comfort facilities for the visitor center and multiple contact stations, Harris house, other park site buildings, and multiple restrooms. Incumbent sweeps and mops floors and sidewalks, operates vacuums on floors and carpets, waxes and polishes stone floors, and empties trash receptacles. Cleans, disinfects, and deodorizes laboratories, urinals, and toilet bowls. Wash walls and windows, polish fixtures, cleans glass displays, cleans mirrors, sinks, and drinking fountains. Dusts ledges and woodwork. Replaces deodorizers, toilet tissue, hand towels, and soap. Keeps an inventory and stocks cleaning materials and equipment needed to accomplish the work. Performs minor maintenance on vacuum cleaners, power scrubbers, buffers, and polishers. Uses. moves, carries, and sets up ladders and scaffolding, and works from ladders and scaffold. Frequently lifts objects weighing over 40 pounds and occasionally over 50 pounds. Laborer Duties: Incumbent sweeps and cleans the sidewalks adjacent to the visitor center and cleans the grounds surrounding the building. Incumbent pulls weeds in the parking medians and the landscaped areas around the visitor center. Grounds maintenance requires the operation of a lawn mower, weed eater and hedge trimmer in the performance of duty. Incumbent performs minor tune-up on small gasoline engines for lawnmowers, air compressors, and generators by changing spark plugs, oil, and oil filters. Trades Helper: Assists higher-graded employees by performing simpler and more routine duties of the following trades: Plumbing- May be required to use basic hand tools of its trade and an electric drain cleaner for cleaning drains. Masonry- Mixes cement mortar in wheelbarrow or cement mixer. Hauls and places rocks or brick in the stabilization and restoration of the interior and exterior adobe walls and concrete work. Painting- Assists in the painting of buildings by preparing surfaces for painting by sanding, taping around windows, applying paint to items with brushes and rollers when mixing and matching is not required, etc. All duties include use of tools of the trade and cleaning areas, tools, and equipment at the end of shift or project completion. Performs Other Duties as Assigned

Requirements Continued: You may be required to travel overnight away from home. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program. Education

There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
