You will serve as a PHYSICIAN (MEDICAL EVALUATION BOARD) in the WARFIGHTER OPTIMIZATION DIRECTORATE, OPERATIONAL FORCE READINESS of NMRTC PORTSMOUTH VA.
THIS IS A DIRECT HIRE ANNOUNCEMENT.
Duties
You will serve as a Disability Evaluation System (DES) expert, consultant, and advisor to engage in Medical Evaluation Board administration, evaluation, and finalization of MEB reports.
You will be applying, professional theories, principles, concepts, and practices of medicine sufficient to elicit and interpret complex medical aspects of disability claim cases.
You will critically evaluate service members in a broader context of occupational health/ physical medicine including fitness for duty, return to work, and functional medical testing.
You will develop policies and deliver guidelines or training for interns, residents, and other medical staff to follow when carrying out MEB guidelines, processes, and procedures.
You will apply new scientific and technological procedures in the evaluation of complex patient cases.
You will assess injuries affecting a service members job performance, current job assignment sustainability, and ability to continue to serve on active or reserve duty status.
You will serve as a nationally recognized authority to perform research and clinical investigations for Medical Evaluation Board.
You will provide advisory and consultative services to other board members or external agencies regarding conflicting medical evidence.
You will advise and explain complex medical processes to develop clinical narrative summaries.
You will provide briefings to peers and managers in order to effect change and/ or gain compliance.
Requirements

Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS14 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
Experience evaluating patients for fitness-for-duty and disability determination by conducting complex and comprehensive reviews and thorough physical and mental examinations;
Experience performing extensive research, consultation, and advising medical and healthcare specialists regarding impact of diagnosis and treatment for various patient cases;
Experience overseeing medical readiness processes to ensure healthcare providers are appropriately trained, patients are thoroughly counseled, and medical tests/ examinations are properly annotated in systems of record;
Experience with medical evaluation board activities in applying professional theories, principles, and practices of medicine sufficient to develop guidelines for interns, residents, and other medical staff when providing patient care services;

Education

Basic Requirements
Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada, accredited by the
Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association;
Association of American Medical Colleges;
Liaison Committee on Medical Education;
Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the
U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Medical School: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the
Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
Licensure: applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. Graduate training programs include only those
internship, residency, and
fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada.
Additional Requirements for Grades GS-12 and Above
For GS-15 -- 5 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.
