About the Position: The purpose of this position is to provide installation access control services to a wide variety of visitors with reoccurring, nonrecurring and unique access requests, and requirements.
Duties
Receives and processes more than 50,000 visitors annually for access to the installation's controlled, restricted, and limited areas.
Reviews visitor applications, local forms, and/or other documentation to determine purpose of visit or work to be performed.
Screens all employees, visitors, consultants, and contractor personnel daily, to determine status of an individual and reason for visit.
Operates the NCIC National Crime Information Center (NCIC/NCCIC) workstation terminal(s) in accordance with federal and state laws.
Issue identification badges, cards, and passes that allow access of personnel, and visitors onto the installation.
Provides various office automation support to the security office staff.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal right.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- This position requires the Incumbent to be able to obtain and maintain state certification for operating the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminal(s).
- A fully qualified typist with office automation skills is required.
- This position is a Mission Essential position.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) Operating various computer equipment and application software; (2) Communicating with internal and external customers providing information such as guidance, policy regulation and/or standard operating procedures; and (3) Applying independent judgment in determining the steps necessary to resolve unique situations.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
