The New Mexico VA Healthcare Network is recruiting for a Supervisory Dietitian (Food Operations) responsible for the Nutrition and Food Service (N&FS) section. The incumbent provides professional and management support, which includes planning, implementing and directing the food production and service.
Duties
Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Manage the Food Service and Production operation that may include various cooking methods including conventional (scratch) cooking and convenience cooking.
Evaluate the current food production and service system and make appropriate and effective recommendations to the Chief and Assistant Chief Nutrition & Food Services to improve services provided to patients, reduce or stabilize cost of services, improve quality of food services and performance of human resources in the administrative section.
Develop and annually review standard operating procedures that relate to the administrative section. Coordinate programs with nursing and other services.
Develop strategic planning goals and objectives for the administrative section.
Prepare financial reports and comparative data for the formulation of subsequent fiscal year's budget and forecasts.
Responsible for collecting, collating, and reporting benchmarking data.
Serve as the Chair of the N&FS Pl Committee, which involves developing and spearheading the Service Pl plan and maintaining records of all committee functions.
Responsible to ensure compliance with national and VISN performance standards and measures, both clinical and administrative.
Work Schedule: Mon-Fri, 7:00am-3:30pm; can adjust.

Qualifications
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
English Language Proficiency. Medical Instrument Technicians must be proficient in spoken and written English.
Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or Registered Dietitian (RD) - Must be registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) the credentialing branch of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics formerly known as the American Dietetic Association (ADA).
Foreign Education. To be creditable, college and/or university degrees earned outside the U.S and its territories must be evaluated by ACEND® and meet ACEND®'s International Dietitian Education standards which are designed to provide graduates with the knowledge and competencies to sit for the CDR credentialing exam.
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).
GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
GS-12 Supervisory Dietitian (Food Operations): Applicants must have 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level. In addition, applicants must meet the following Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
Knowledge of standards to assess staff compliance and implement performance improvements.
Skill in establishing goals and objectives to coordinate activities, evaluate accomplishments and solve problems.
Skill in applying nutritional knowledge to ensure menus meet nutrition standards.
Ability to utilize Evidence-Based Nutrition Practice Guidelines in order to develop, implement and coordinate best practices.
Ability to serve as a food operations expert, providing technical guidance, direction and staff development.
Ability to supervise subordinate staff (i.e., plan, organize, delegate, direct, control and review activities and performance).
Ability to analyze data in order to recommend allocation of resources.
Preferred Experience: Registered Nutrition Dietitian, Experience in healthcare kitchen management

This vacancy is above the full performance level for the GS-12.
Physical Requirements: This work is primarily sedentary but also requires some standing, walking, bending, lifting and carrying of items. Physical effort and ability to perform repetitive motions with arms and requires good balance to prevent falling when assisting patients with an activity.
