This position is located within the US Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Office of Research and Registration (MC-R), Office of Research (MC-RR) and its primary mission is to reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities involving large trucks and buses.

Qualifications

To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the specialized experience requirements.To qualify for the GS-15, you must have at least one year of experience equal or equivalent to the GS-14, it must include: Experience leading individuals and teams in exercising important policymaking, policy-determining, or other executive management functions. Experience in developing working relationships with multiple levels of stakeholders (executives, other government agencies, industry, academia, and/or international groups). Experience in applying appropriate principles, procedures, requirements, regulations and policies related to analysis, research and technology programs and projects. Experience with the financial, management and technical impacts of program decisions on issues related to analysis, research, and development. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Research - Knowledge of the scientific principles, methods, and processes used to conduct a systematic and objective inquiry; including study design, collection, analysis, and interpretation of data; and the reporting of results. Mathematical Reasoning - Solves practical problems by choosing appropriately from a variety of mathematical and statistical techniques. Managing Human Resources - Plans, distributes, coordinates, and monitors work assignments of others; evaluates work performance and provides feedback to others on their performance; ensures that staff are appropriately selected, utilized, and developed, and that they are treated in a fair and equitable manner. Strategic Thinking - Formulates objectives and priorities and implements plans consistent with the long-term interests of the organization in a global environment. Capitalizes on opportunities and manages risks. Integrity/Honesty - Contributes to maintaining the integrity of the organization; displays high standards of ethical conduct and understands the impact of violating these standards on an organization, self, and others; is trustworthy. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education

Basic Requirements:

  1. Degree: Mathematics, statistics, or actuarial science. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.

    or

  2. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
