About the Position: This position is located at the Chief of Hospital Services Patient Safety at 15th Medical Group (Hickam), which is on the Island of Oahu, Hawaii. Advance in Hire may be authorized. This is only available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.

Duties

Develop recommendations for organizational change leading to formulation of policies and processes that facilitate safer, more reliable care. Establish mechanisms to educate staff on key patient safety principles and on elements of a reliable safety culture. Implement team training and culture of safety through evidence-based strategies, behaviors, and simulation. Responsible for maintaining current facility policies and procedures related to patient safety.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement therefore the incumbent is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • Position may require temporary duty (TDY) business travel up to 5% of the time.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: assisting with administering a Patient Safety Program (PSP); assisting with educating staff of patient safety principles; and conducting analyses concerning patient safety within a Medical Treatment Facility. This work may have been performed in an operating health care facility or a higher organizational echelon with advisory or directional authority over such facilities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as:Hospital Administration, Public Health Administration, Business or Public Administration with course work in Health Care Administration. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Compliance InspectionInformation ManagementSafety and Health Training and EducationSafety and Quality Care Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
