This position is located in the Physical Therapy Section in the Rehabilitation Medicine Department at the NIH Clinical Center. The Physical Therapy team provides advanced evaluation and management of patients who are acutely or chronically ill with musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiopulmonary, oncology and genetics disorders. Goals include restoration or maintenance of sensory and motor abilities to prevent, reverse, or minimize functional limitations/disabilities.

Duties

As a Research Physical Therapist, your typical work assignments may include the following: Reviewing, processing and interpreting data for clinical and research physical therapy studies. Identifying new areas needed for physical therapy research. Designing and conducting physical therapy research projects. Evaluating the impact of implementation of research findings in the physical therapy practice and report results of research internally and to the community at large. Preparing and assisting with the preparation of scientific manuscripts, abstracts and posters. Providing leadership for students who are interested in learning more clinical research standardized assessments.

Requirements

Qualifications

To qualify for a Research Physical Therapist, GS-0633 you must: A. Possess a graduate or higher level degree that included: A physical therapy curriculum approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or a professional accrediting organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. AND B. Completion of the clinical requirements prescribed by the school. Licensure Requirement: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physical Therapist from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and must have passed the National Physical Therapy Examination administered by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT). In addition, in order to qualify for a Research Physical Therapist at the GS-12 level, you must have: A. Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR B. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks:analyzing portions of physical therapy clinical research projects by performing and interpreting data analysis; customizing and modifying standard physical therapy practices relative to system processes and application; analyzing a research participant's mobility issues and developing alternative physical therapies consistent with the clinical research design; identifying research needs for physical therapy research. OR C.I qualify for this position at the GS-12 level because I have a combination of post graduate education and experience that is directly related to the duties of this position that meets 100% of the qualifications requirements for this position.
