The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is seeking to hire a Health Program Specialist. You will have a key role in planning, coordinating, and evaluating research proposals for grant programs. You will attend meetings and committees to keep organizations informed of the latest advancements and allows them to participate in developing scientific initiatives.
Duties
As a Health Program Specialist your duties will include, but are not limited to:
Plan, coordinate, and screen proposed projects for their interest and appropriateness for extramural grant programs at the ICO.
Provide scientific support in planning, coordination, evaluation, and communication of research in assigned areas to internal and external stakeholders.
Regularly attend Advisory Council or other similar meetings as a resource and assist in preparing data and presentation material.
Conceive, design, and perform detailed analysis of scientific and/or administrative factors affecting research program priorities and performance in the areas of specialty.
Participate in developing scientific initiatives and analyzing their success.
Evaluate grant programs supported by tracking applications, success rates, activities and spending of grant recipients.
Serve as programmatic point of contact to facilitate administrative checklists and documentation prior to release awards.
Requirements

Qualifications
In order to qualify for a Health Program Specialist GS-0601 position, you must have completed a full 4 year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree or graduate higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
AND
To qualify at the GS-11 level, if you meet one of the following qualification requirements: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS- 09 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: assisting in the administration of biomedical research projects; developing reports/papers on biomedical research results; and, presenting research findings to scientific audiences; OR
Completion of a higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree in a related field from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university; or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a related field; OR
A combination of education and specialized experience that meets the qualification requirements for this position.
To qualify at the GS-12 level, if you meet one of the following qualification requirements: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS- 11 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: assessing biomedical research projects for appropriateness and effectiveness; presenting research findings to scientific audiences; developing reports/papers on biomedical research results; and, ensuring funding opportunities and grant applications meet specified requirements for submission.
To qualify at the GS-13 level, if you meet one of the following qualification requirements: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS- 12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: assessing biomedical research projects for appropriateness and effectiveness; developing and presenting biomedical research results and research evaluation materials at conferences and workshops; ensuring funding opportunities and grant applications meet specified requirements for submission; and, providing advice to other researchers on the performance, planning and administrative management of biomedical research projects.
