This position is located in the Bemidji Area, IHS at Red Lake Service Unit within the Nursing Services section. Health Services provided include adult and geriatric, Inpatient, Ambulatory, Emergency and Community Health. There are 17 inpatient beds. Clients ages range from birth to geriatric (neonatal, infants, children, adolescents, adults and geriatric). The purpose of this position is to perform general clerical duties involved in the operation of the Emergency Department (ED).
Duties
Monitors all aspects of the Emergency/Urgent Care Department. Keeps Emergency/Urgent Care Department records in order. Accompanies patients to other departments. Answers telephone promptly and refers to care manager if needed. Informs nurse of very ill patients or those requiring urgent treatment. Enters data into RPMS and EHR informs nurse of patient condition to keep delay in treatment to a minimum.
Greets and assists patients entering the Emergency Department.
Supplies clerical needs of the department. Maintains record confidentiality and safe guard's medical information.
Interviews patient to obtain pertinent information and enters data into RPMS/EHR computer system. Assist patient in completing new or updated forms.
Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
GS-04 - 1 Year of General Experience OR 2 Years of Education above the High School Level.
General Experience is defined as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
GS-05 - 1 year equivalent to at least GS-4 OR 4 years of education above the high school level.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-05 - 1 full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level that equipped me with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples include: Scheduling and re-scheduling appointments, knowledge of medical terminology, recording information accurately, basic nursing skills, ability to interview patients.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
