The incumbent serves as Pharmacy Medical Support Assistant Supervisor within the Phoenix Indian Medical Center, located in Phoenix, AZ. Supervisory Medical Support Assistant (MSA) functions in various duties in the outpatient pharmacies that require application of a working knowledge of pharmacy practice. Incumbent serves as front-line staff, he/she must be able to interact tactfully and courteously with patients, pharmacy staff, and other health care professionals.
Duties
MSA utilizes computer applications including the Electronic Health Record (EHR), and pharmacy dispensing automation robotics.
Evaluates MSA staff, assures proper program staffing, evaluates program quality, productivity, and effectiveness, and assesses the need to revise or develop tasks to meet patient care needs.
Ensures that the pharmacy MSA services are compliant with IHS and hospital regulatory standards. Maintains employee files.
Schedules work and determines staffing patterns in concert with the pharmacy management team and approves leave within pharmacy department staffing guidelines.
Retrieve medications ready for pick up when patients return to the pharmacy and place them in order on the dispensing counter.
Determine whether outside prescriptions are fillable by checking status of PIMC referral on the Health Summary or EHR, obtaining information as to emergent status of visit to another facility and referring to a pharmacist as needed to determine formulary availability of the medication.
Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Provides input on performance; Resolves daily work place issues and maintain efficient workflow; Conducts ongoing reviews to ensure quality of work; Interview applicants for position vacancies, check references and makes recommendations to the Chief Pharmacist. Schedules work and determines staffing patterns with the pharmacy management team. Assist patients and staff regarding prescriptions, retrieve medications, checking outside prescriptions and verifying patient information.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
