The position is located at within the Office of Governmental and Public Affairs (CG-092), Office of Coast Guard Heritage (CG-0924), National Coast Guard Museum (CG-09241) in New London, Connecticut.

Duties

This position serves as the primary advisor to the Director of Facilities and Security concerning physical and personnel security which cover a variety of functional areas; physical, personnel and industrial. The duties performed in these functional areas are to protect personnel, facilities, and museum assets against criminal or hostile activities, sabotage, unauthorized access, natural disasters, and terrorism.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • State Driver's License is Required.
  • Time-in grade requirement must be met by closing date.
  • A one-year probationary period maybe required.

Qualifications

To qualify for the GS-12: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lowest grade level (GS-11 level) in the federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Specialized experience must include the following: Promoting and implementing security measures for the protection of personnel, visitors, assets, and the physical space; Analyzing and resolving facility safety or security problems; Providing technical oversight regarding security systems; Updating security directives, manuals, guidelines or procedures; Developing security educational and training programs to inform and increase awareness among personnel. There is no educational substitution at this grade level. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
