The Orlando VA Healthcare System is seeking an experienced and dynamic Dentist (Prosthodontist) . Our ideal applicants are those who want to contribute to the achievement of quality care standards, as well as the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program.
Duties
The Dentist assigned will provide oral surgery treatment in both outpatient clinic and operating room settings.. They also provide specialty dental procedures like root canal, restorations, and dentures.
SCOPE OF DUTIES
The Prosthodontist dental officer shall be proficient in all aspects of general dentistry including the ability to perform selected specialty services. Specifically, the provider should possess the expertise and competency to perform the following:
Make oral and radiographic examinations of the oral cavity and its adjacent tissues and structures.
Diagnose pathological or irregular oral conditions.
Administer local anesthesia.
Accomplish routine and complex restoration of teeth.
Provide routine and complex dental appliances including removable dentures, removable partials, fixed bridgework, implant-supported prostheses, and maxillofacial prosthetics.
Is involved in the design, construction, and fitting of prosthetic devices to correct a severe oral maxillofacial deformity, a complex malocclusion problem and/or correct a major loss of structural parts of mouth or face.
Provides prostheses to assist in the management of sleep apnea.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm
(Note: Work schedules are determined and approved by the supervisor. The incumbent may be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis based on facility/patient care needs).

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Dentist Basic Requirements
A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are (1) United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation(CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.(2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. ~AND~
Completed, or you are currently completing, a residency program in Prosthodontics, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients. ~AND~
Currently hold, or will hold, a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Note: Dentists must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.

Physical Requirements: Must pass a pre-employment physical examination as required by VA Handbook 5019. This examination is administered by VA Occupational Health. This position requires: light to moderate lifting (15 - 44 LBS); light carrying (15 LBS and under); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking (up to 2 hours); standing (up to 2 hours); kneeling (up to 1 hour); ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable at 13" to 16"; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; depth perception; ability to distinguish basic colors; ability to distinguish shades of colors; hearing (aid permitted); emotional stability; mental stability; working closely with others; and working alone.
