This position performs as the Assistant Hospital Housekeeping Officer directly under the Chief
of the Environmental Management Service (EMS) in the Northern California Health Care
System (NCHCS). The duties, responsibilities, and authorities assigned to the chief at the VA Northern California Health Care System (VANCHCS) to include East Bay and Sacramento Valley Divisions. The incumbent for this position is stationed out of the Mather VA Medical Center.
Duties
Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets long range plans, sets and adjusts short-term priorities and reviews prepared schedules for completion of work.
Assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments and capabilities of employees.
Gives advice, counsel or instructions to employees on both work and administrative matters.
Interviews candidates for positions in the service; approves appointment, promotion or reassignment to such positions.
Effects disciplinary measures, including admonishments, reprimands, suspensions and proposes removal in more serious cases.
Develops performance plans and rates employees; identifies developmental and training needs of employees, providing or arranging for needed development and training.
Finds ways to improve production or increase the quality of the work directed, coordinates or oversees work.
Coordinates a complete Environmental Sanitation Program that includes but is not limited to the development and maintenance standards for cleanliness and sanitation, frequency of cleaning, methods, procedures, necessary supplies and safety precautions to be followed.
Responsible for providing 24-hour/7 days per week environmental sanitation coverage to designated patient and non-patient care areas to include services such as cleaning of ceilings, walks, floors, furniture, etc.
Plans and coordinates all phases of the acquisition, implementation and lifecycle of hospital housekeeping assets.
All other duties as assigned per the position description.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-12 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
