This position will be assigned to the JBSA Lackland Auto Hobby Shop. This is a regular part-time category position with guaranteed 20 hours per week, may work up to 40hrs/week. Employees appointed to regular category positions are eligible for benefits. Must be able to bend, lift, and work in awkward positions both indoors and outdoors. Must be able to frequently lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted.

Duties

Issues, receives and schedules use of equipment, tools and repair/paint stalls for patrons. Uses chit or other parts assignment system for accountability of assigned tools. Determines type of repair job involved and suggests a variety of tools needed to accomplish the repair. Provides instructions to customers on cleaning processes, soiled rag disposal, sweeping and cleanup of repair or pit stall and removal of excess automotive parts. Ensures tools turned-in are clean, assesses breakage or damage if any; charging customer for tools according to prescribed price listing. Operates cash register and accounts for cash using established procedures. Maintains inventory control records of items issued, conducts minor maintenance and repair of tools and equipment. Accounts for condition, inspects tools upon return, bins, stores or replaces item with new. Arranges tools and parts as stock is replenished or added. Develops display pegboards, cleans and grinds tools requiring sharp edges. Maintains a clean and orderly work area at all times. May be required to act as the primary or alternate equipment custodian. Performs other related duties as assigned. Requirements

  • This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • This position has physical requirements which require the incumbent to complete a favorable pre-employment physical.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Are you willing and able to work an assigned shift to meet work requirements?
  • This position requires the incumbent to a Citizen or a Legal U.S. Resident for a minimum of 3 years and must reside in/around the area as noted in the Job Opportunity Announcement.

Qualifying Experience: Applicant must have experience which demonstrates knowledge of a wide variety of automotive tools and parts; good workshop practices to include setting up and maintaining a neat, well organized and secure storage area; inventory procedures and records maintenance. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's): You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: 1. Must possess knowledge of Automotive tools and repair. 2.. Must possess knowledge operating register. . 3. Must possess knowledge of customer service in which you have been direct "one on one" with a customer in assisting them and answering questions. 4. Must possess knowledge of shop equipment 5. Ability to follow written and/or oral instruction, make simple mathematical computations and be able to follow cash handling procedures. 6. Must be able to stand, stoop, bend and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. 7. Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally handle objects weighing up to 40 pounds. 8. Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions. **NOTE: Those qualified applicants who meet both the minimum qualification requirement(s) and highly preferred criteria(s) will be considered best qualified for this position and will be referred to the selecting official(s) first for consideration. Education
